Events Around Douglas County

2pm today, Sunday, April 7, 2024: Take a last stroll over the Oakland Bridge.

The Oakalnd Bridge was builing in 1926, but needs of modern times means it is being replaced. However you can enjoy the celebration of its service to the rural community of Oakland and learn about its history. Here is what organizers of the event say:

“Walk for the last time on the Oakland bridge on Sunday the 7th! 2 pm to 4 pm. Walk, see displays, learn about its history, see some antique cars, eat popcorn, drink lemonade, take pictures, visit with neighbors, & hear some 20’s music on the old 1925 bridge! Parking available next to the Stockyard & down Locust St. Shuttle will be available at various locations down Locust St & Hwy 99. Please do not block any driveways or streets! Come take a last stroll & say goodbye to our very own historic icon. Volunteers only park in the Water Plant parking lot.
The electric car will ferry you to the bridge. Have a fun old-fashioned day!”
